3. 5.2% of U.S. adults (13.2 million Americans) are living with suicidal thoughts. – “Mental Health America (mhanational.org)”.
4. More than 1 in 4 adults living with serious mental illnesses also struggles with substance abuse. “U.S. Department of Health and Human Services”.
5. 1 in 5 young people (age 13-18) has or will develop a mental illness in their lifetime. “National Alliance on Mental Illness”.
6. Youth Depression and Anxiety rates have double compared to Pre-Pandemic levels (from 12.9% pre-pandemic to 25.2% post-pandemic). “Haseltine, William, et al. Forbes, 2021”.

8. Mental illnesses can affect people of any age, race, religion, or income levels. A mental illness is a medical condition that disrupts a person’s thinking, feeling, mood, and ability to relate to others and daily functioning. “U.S. Department of Health and Human Services”.
9. Many factors contribute to the development of a mental health condition, including life experiences (such as trauma or a history of abuse), biological factors, and family history of mental illness. “U.S. Department of Health and Human Services”.
10. Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide. “Anxiety and Depression Association of America”.
11. Members of LGBTQ+ community are almost 3 times more likely to experience a mental health condition such as major depression or generalized anxiety disorder. “National Alliance on Mental Illness”.
12. Common signs of mental health issues include extreme mood swings, changes in eating habits, excessive worrying or fear, problems concentrating, and avoiding friends or social activities. “National Alliance on Mental Illness”.
13. Mental illness disproportionately impacts racial and ethnic minorities in the United States:
• African Americans: Only 1 in 3 African Americans who need mental health care receive it.
• Latinos: Latinos are less likely to access mental health services than non-Hispanic whites (Approximately 50% less likely).
• Americans Indian or Alaska Native have the highest instances of mental illness.
